Matthew 5:5-6

From Harshness to Gentleness a Hunger For The Eternal!

Psalms 40:1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD.

What does this life look like? Matthew 5:1-4

1. From Pride to Humility! A Humble Life

Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2. From Worldly to Godly Sorrow! An Appropriate Sorrowful Life!

Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

2 Corinthians 7:9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. 10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

3. From Harshness to Gentleness!

What is Gentleness?

Christ Uses the Word to Describe His Own Disposition!

Matthew 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, andYOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

1 Peter 2:21-24 – The Gentleness of Christ!

Matt 26:52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. 53 "Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels ? 54 "How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?"

Acts 7:54 -60 – The Gentleness of Stephen!

1 Peter 3:15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; NASU 

4. From Temporal Pursuits to Eternal Pursuits!  

From A Hunger for the Temporal to a Hunger For the Eternal! 

Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

To Hunger and Thirst For Righteousness

1. Is to Hunger for God and His Ways! Psalm 63:1-5
2. It is to Hunger for What God Desires!
3. Is to Believe Jesus Is the One Who Ultimately Satisfies With His Spirit!
